MDS 3.0 to take effect in October 2009

The implementation date for the new MDS 3.0 is set for Oct. 1, 2009. CMS plans to announce other pivotal dates for the much-anticipated new version of the MDS, the system that governs Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements. For example, draft MDS 3.0 specifications will be released in March 2008. They will then be revised in December 2008 or early January 2009, and final MDS 3.0 specifications will be released in February 2009, according to knowledgeable sources.
