Briggs Offers “Vidatak EZ Board” to Advance Patient Communication

DES MOINES, IA (September 5, 2006)
- Briggs Corporation is offering what will become a key tool for patients with communication impairments – the Vidatak EZ Board. This wipe-off board helps patients express needs, convey requests and indicate the type, degree and location of pain they may be experiencing – all without the need for verbal communication. Traditionally, this tool has been used for hospital patients but is now being offered to home care and hospice providers – an instrument that is much needed within the health care setting.

“This is the only clinical research-based communication intervention for the nonverbal patient,” said Cyndi Rohert, RN, BSN, CHPN, CRNI, Briggs clinical consultant for home care and hospice. “It has been shown to reduce patient and caregiver frustration and increase satisfaction of care.”

Briggs began offering this product to fulfill a true need for home care and hospice patients. As the company connected with key home health care providers, it became clear this tool would be exceptionally beneficial to not only patients, but their caregivers as well.

The board, available in English, Spanish and several other languages, is easy-to-read with large text. A color-coded pain scale and full body illustrations can also be used to quickly identify and respond to areas of concern and the severity of pain. “I AM” and “I WANT” columns are additional features that allow communication ease between the caregiver and the patient. Overall, the Vidatak EZ Board will drastically change the interaction a patient has and the ability to communicate.
