Briggs OASIS Customers Have Better Outcomes, Study Shows
DES MOINES, IA (September 27, 2007) - Improvement
in pain, ambulation and surgical wound status are among the areas in which home
care agencies using Briggs OASIS forms have better outcomes than a national
comparison group of home care agencies, according to a study released today.
The study was conducted by OCS, Inc., a leading health care data and analytics company specializing in collecting, evaluating and interpreting health care information to produce reliable, fact-based insights.
In the study, 73 home care agencies known to have used Briggs OASIS Assessments during 2006 were compared to a national norm of agencies not using Briggs OASIS Assessments.
Measures tested included the ten current publicly-reported Home Health Compare quality measures established by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), two additional quality measures released by CMS that will be publicly-reported in 2008 and resource utilization indicators. The full report is available at www.BriggsCorp.com or by calling 515-327-6540.
Overall, the Briggs agencies showed strong performance in comparison with the national group, showing significantly better outcomes than the national comparison group in improvement and stabilization of pain, dyspnea, surgical wounds, ambulation and locomotion, transferring and bathing.
The Briggs customer group also scored significantly lower rates of occurrence for two undesirable patient events: emergent care and emergent care for wound infection and deterioration.
“The results are gratifying to us all,” said Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales Betti Duffy Kerrigan. “They prove what we’ve been saying all along—that using Briggs documentation systems to plan and fulfill care management results in better outcomes.”
Now in its 60th year of operation, Briggs provides a comprehensive range of documentation solutions to health care customers in hospitals and clinics, skilled nursing, home care and hospice, assisted living and other settings.
