Briggs Senior Care Clinician Speaks Out About Working Families as Partners in Service Delivery at AAHSA
DES MOINES, IA (October 5, 2007) - Briggs Corporation, a leader in Senior Care documentation systems, is
proud to announce that Karen Merk, RN, BS, CRNAC, a clinical documentation
expert in the long-term care field, will speak about working with families as
partners in service delivery. Merk’s session will be held at the American
Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA) Annual Meeting and
Exposition in Orlando, Florida on Wednesday, October 24 from 10:15am to 12:15pm
in session 148-G.
Briggs Corporation is teaming up with GuideOne Insurance’s Long-Term Care Risk Manager, Linda L. Williams, RN, BSN, MPA for this event. Merk and Williams will be teaching on the importance of risk management through relationship building, staff education and proper documentation in facilities, and they will also be available after the presentation to discuss further questions regarding risk management. Both companies will be exhibiting at the conference, and you can visit Briggs at booth 3017 and GuideOne at booth 3122.
Karen Merk has previously served as the Director of Nursing in a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) and as a clinical case manager for a 40 bed sub-acute unit. She is a Certified Registered Nurse Assessment Coordinator and received her BS from the University of St. Francis. Merk currently teaches the Certified Registered Nurse Assessment Coordinators course throughout the United States. She is an active participant and regularly attends the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Skilled Nursing Facility open door forums in Washington, DC. Karen Merk has participated in many peer review opportunities for CMS. Her expertise is in assisting long-term care facilities with documentation and staff education. She has written many articles for publications such as Nursing Home Magazine and provided quotes for Long-Term Care magazines. Merk is also the co-director for the Iowa Person Directed Care Coalition.
Linda Williams is a Long Term Care Risk Manager/RN with the GuideOne Center for Risk Management. She has previously served as a Director of Nursing in a CCRC and as a nurse consultant for two corporations with numerous long-term care facilities in Iowa. Linda has a BSN from The University of Iowa and a MPA from Drake University. At GuideOne, Linda has reviewed and consulted in nursing home litigation claims and has written and presented seminars about the relationship between nursing home risk management and legal outcomes for various health care associations throughout the United States. Linda has written several risk management articles for Nursing Homes magazine (bi-monthly "Liability Landscape" section) and various other publications. Her expertise is in assisting long-term care facilities with risk management and regulatory compliance programs, as well as staff management, education and development.
