Briggs Takes a Closer Look at Fall Prevention

DES MOINES, IA (January 9, 2007)
- Briggs Corporation takes a closer look at fall prevention in the new OUTCOMELinks™ Fall Prevention Program. The
one-of-a-kind program provides the tools to support improved fall outcomes, reduced hospitalizations and increased referrals.

Briggs Corporation partnered with OUTCOMELogics, Inc. to create this innovative evidence-based program, and they both agree there is a rapidly growing consensus about the importance of preventing falls in the home. Between one-half and two-thirds of all falls and 60 percent of fatal falls occur in or around the home. According to Generations, The Journal of the American Society on Aging, as many as 40% of non-institutionalized, community-dwelling adults ages 65 and older fall in their home each year.

According to Melinda Huffman, a Principal Consultant for OUTCOMELogics, Inc, “The home health industry is positioned to make a tremendous contribution in the area of fall prevention, not only for older adults in our care, but for our communities as well.” Ms. Huffman gave several presentations regarding the new OUTCOMELinks Fall Prevention Program when it was initially released in October during the National Association for Home Care and Hospice (NAHC) annual convention in Baltimore, Maryland.

Specifically designed with components that link together, OUTCOMELinks Fall Prevention Program includes:

  • Assessments that capture the right data to successfully identify and implement evidence-based interventions
  • Staff and patient education that clearly address interventions to ensure they are effective
  • Documentation to provide comprehensive data to identify fall risk and to aggregate and trend fall outcomes
  • Marketing and community outreach activities to increase referrals and community awareness
